On 9th and 10th July 2024, the Regional Research Centre for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in West and Central Asia under the auspices of UNESCO (Tehran ICH Centre), hosted its 6th Governing Council Meeting.
Representatives from Armenia, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Syria, and Turkey attended to finalise the proposed Action Plan for the Tehran ICH Centre for 2024-2025 and to consider proposals for activities in 2025-2026. The meeting also considered submitted candidatures for membership in the Governing Council. The meeting was graced by the presence of representatives from resident foreign missions in Tehran, including the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Iran, Deputy Ambassador of Lebanon, Deputy Ambassador of Syria, and the First Secretary of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Iran. The second day of the event featured an awareness-raising workshop for journalists specialising in tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
This workshop, the second in a series organised by the Tehran ICH Centre for journalists, focused on highlighting the connections between intangible cultural heritage and climate change, as well as between intangible cultural heritage and museums. Trainers from Iran, Kazakhstan and Pakistan provided insights leading to engaging discussions between participants and representatives of the countries participating in the Tehran ICH Centre.
